Mike S. Florida. Make Your Own Luck.
In my Asian Humanities class today, we had an entire discussion on this year and what exactly it signifies or is meant to signify. It could possibly be the end of the human civilization and mankind as we know it, or it could simply just be another Y2K scare. I’m going to cast my vote for the latter, but as unpredictable as life is, we really never know. This entire discussion on whether 2012 really is the last year on Earth or not turned a light bulb on in my head and helped shed some light on a situation that has been troubling me for a while now and that I constantly see all around.
People doing nothing with their lives. We all know at least a handful of these people. Those whose only real concern in life is finding the next party or excuse my french, getting fucked up, has been placed on top of their hierarchy of needs. Let’s face it, if these people continue to live this way and get stuck into that lifestyle, their going nowhere fast. And I’m not just calling out the “party kids” but also those kids who have given in and succumbed to the career choice or path their parents have chosen for them. This is probably the worst thing a parent can do for their child. Basically telling their son or daughter that they’re going to do something for the rest of their lives that the parents are going to be happy about but the actual person living that life is mostly likely going to end up hating. They’re basically throwing their lives away in both cases instead of creating a life worth living through their own eyes and logic.
If it were to click in everyone’s heads that you only live once, maybe they’ll wake up from this coma like induced life. Your given one shot at life to make the most out of it and maybe do something you quite didn’t get to do in your last life. Even if this really isn’t the last year left on Earth, why not make a change and start working towards and accomplishing all of your aspirations and dreams you have. Start a project or try something you’ve always wanted to do. Stop constantly pushing it back for whatever reason saying you’ll wait til next year. Do it now and live in the present because this might just be the last year to do what you’ve always wanted to.
